The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to question certain calls from the chair umpire, echoing the system currently in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
The new system will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step follows just a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can initiate.
Case in Point
An illustrative case took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
This technology aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
